Launched in 1797, the USS Constitution earned her famous nickname "Old Ironsides" during the War of 1812, when enemy cannonballs were reported to bounce clean off her thick oak hull rather than piercing it.
The reputation stuck, and the ship remains the oldest commissioned warship still afloat in the world today, still seaworthy over two centuries later. Turns out good timber and even better engineering can outlast almost anything.
