In 1674, Shivaji was crowned Chhatrapati at Raigad Fort, formally founding the Maratha Empire and openly challenging Mughal dominance in the Deccan. What followed was decades of guerrilla warfare, fort-hopping, and tactical raids that turned a regional uprising into one of the most formidable powers in Indian history. Mughal generals learned fast that comfort was not on the agenda.
