Most WWII officers carried a rifle. This one brought a longbow, a claymore, and a full set of bagpipes — and used all three.

Lieutenant Colonel Jack Churchill scored the last recorded longbow kill in British military history in 1940, then spent the rest of the war leading commando raids sword-in-hand, bagpipes blaring, on the basis that "any officer who goes into action without his sword is improperly dressed." He once captured 42 German soldiers armed with nothing but a blade and a corporal. Modern problems, evidently, never stood a chance.
