On 27 August 1896, British warships shelled the Sultan's palace in Zanzibar after a disputed succession, and the entire conflict was finished in roughly 38 minutes — officially the shortest war ever recorded. One side suffered a single wounded sailor. The other suffered considerably more, then surrendered before lunch.
