Long before phones, there was a much longer scroll, and it ruined King John's entire week.

Sealed at Runnymede in 1215, the Magna Carta forced an English king to admit, in writing, that even he had limits. Buried in the legal Latin is the foundation of due process and the rule of law — though at the time it mostly just meant a furious monarch being told to read the whole thing before agreeing to anything. Doomscrolling, it turns out, has been miserable since the 13th century.

For the lads who'd rather read 3,500 words of Latin than admit they're wrong.
